Have a bike you're not using anymore?

There's a bicycle drop-off scheduled for this Saturday in Ladner - just ahead of Delta's annual Spring Clean-Up program.

"That's why I thought it would be a perfect timing. That's why we picked that weekend to do it," said organizer Lisa Nykoluk.

Nykoluk, who lives in Ladner, said she's seen bikes out on the curb during Spring Clean-Up, where normal garbage volume limits are waived.

Nykoluk is hoping people donate their unwanted bikes instead of putting them out on the curb.

"By donating a bike, people can know it'll be put into the hands of somebody who can use one," she said.

Hollyburn Family Services will help get the bikes into the hands of children and youth in the Vancouver area that don't currently have access to them, she noted.

Hollyburn's Alison Pillar explained her organization is partnered with Obsession Bikes, a bike store in North Vancouver that runs a Bikes for Tykes program.

The business fixes donated bikes and puts them back into the community, she said.

The drop-off will be held Saturday, April 14 at the Sacred Heart School parking lot on Arthur Drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Everything from tricycles and tyke bikes with training wheels to adult bicycles in relatively good working order will be accepted.

Donations of new helmets or cash for the purchase of helmets will also be accepted.
