The Universal Readers from Tsawwassen's Southpointe Academy were crowned champions of the 2015 Delta Reading Link Challenge earlier this month.

Unlike previous years where only three teams -one each from Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta -competed against each other, a total of 20 teams converged into the gym at McCloskey Elementary in North Delta.

The morning proved to be entertaining and finished in a tie that took eight questions to break.

The winning team from Southpointe will now go on to represent Delta at the Fraser Valley Regional Library Community Challenge tomorrow.

The FVRL Reading Link Challenge is a yearly event that encourages reading as a fun and recreational activity for Grade 4 and 5 students of all reading abilities.

Interested students form teams of six that are responsible for knowing the contents of six books. Kids get the books in November and read until February.

The Delta Reading Link Challenge began with 86 teams -42 from 10 North Delta schools, 23 from six Tsawwassen schools and 21 from four Ladner schools.
