Rotary clubs recognize deserving Delta youth with annual awards

Nominations sought in four categories for young people making a difference

The Rotary clubs of Ladner, North Delta and Tsawwassen will recognize deserving Delta youth in fifth annual Delta Rotary Youth Awards this spring.

The awards will be presented on Saturday, May 11 at a dinner and ceremony at the Delta Town & Country Inn.

The Rotary clubs need the public's assistance to identify those remarkable youth who are making a difference in the community. Individuals, sports and church groups, schools and other organizations in Delta are being asked to help recognize these unsung heroes by nominating that amazing boy or girl, age 10 to 18, in one of four categories.

"Delta Rotarians know that our community has many awesome and amazing youth that go unnoticed while doing service to others," says Tsawwassen club member and event chair Marilyn Rafter. "These young people are truly wonderful and deserve our appreciation for all the good work that they do and personal challenges that they have overcome."

In the Compassion and Empathy category, the individual will have demonstrated these traits of caring and kindness in the form of a single event, project or series of actions over a period of time.

The Inner Strength category will show a youth that has achieved victory over adversity and shown hope, courage and optimism by overcoming difficulty.

In the Helping Hand category, the individual has helped others without seeking personal reward or accolades and is given to someone who is always willing to make the world a better place by reaching out to others.

The Global category recognizes an act or project that is international in nature and may address relief efforts, health and prevention, peace and understanding, alleviate poverty, build bridges or celebrate diversity.

The presenting sponsor of the youth awards, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, has graciously offered a $1,000 scholarship to any nominee that plans on continuing their education at Kwantlen.

There is a deadline of April 12 for nominations.

Nomination forms can be downloaded at www. clubrunner.ca/ladner or for more information contact Leslie Abramson at abramson@telus.net or 604946-0672. Completed forms can be dropped off at any Delta branch of Envision Financial. Tickets to the awards dinner are also available to the public.
