A handful of local bands are coming together to put on a food drive show at the Tsawwassen Legion next Friday.

"It'll be a really, really good rockin' time. Hopefully we get lots of people out and throw a big Christmas party," says Jordan Field, lead singer for Six to Midnight, one of the groups that will be performing.

Field says it's good to give back to the community and that it's fun playing shows for a good cause.

Donated food will go to Deltassist's Christmas hamper program, an annual effort to help local lowincome families during the holiday season.

Six to Midnight, which plays a style of rock infused with soul, pop and a hint of blues, has been staying busy with shows in Vancouver, recently creating a music video and putting together a new website (sixtomidnight. ca).

The four-piece, which formed in 2008 and has a self-titled EP out, is comprised of Field, guitarist Daryn Davies, bassist Evan Jones and drummer Nathan Steinberger.

Six to Midnight will be joined by StrangeFruit, Between Takes and The Hutchison Effect.

StrangeFruit, made up of Evan Findlay (vocals, guitar), Conor Watts (bassist, vocals) and Bryson Dodwell (drums), plays a brand of "intellectual rock n' roll."

Between Takes is composed up of vocalist/guitarist Mark Pocock, lead guitarist Andrew Laing, bass player Sam Buchanan and drummer Amanda Hamilton. The group released a self-titled, fivesong EP in the fall of 2010 and for two years running placed in the top 20 in the 99.3 The Fox Vancouver Seeds contest.

Between Takes, which lists The Goo Goo Dolls, Our Lady Peace, Oasis and The Matthew Good Band among its influences, was also named a "Best of B.C band" by 95.3 Virgin Radio, earning radio play for their single, "see you again."

The food drive show is set for Friday, Dec. 16 at the Tsawwassen Legion. Doors are at 8 p.m. Admission (must be 19 or older) is a minimum of two non-perishable food items.
