Sidekick is on the lookout for one grumpy old man

The Sidekick Players Club has auditions scheduled as it prepares for its upcoming production of Visiting Mr. Green. Written by Jeff Baron and directed for Sidekick by Todd-Elliot Gates, the play will be staged March 8 to 24.

Ross Gardner is an executive who has been recklessly driving and must do community service. He is a told to help an elderly Jewish man, Mr. Green, once a week in Green's NYC apartment.

Green is grumpy and does not want his help. The play is about their relationship and how they eventually learn more and more about one another.

Visiting Mr. Green has had over 300 productions in 37 countries and been translated into 22 languages.

Gates will be auditioning for the roles of Mr. Green and Ross Gardner from 6: 30 to 9: 30 p.m. at the Tsawwassen Arts Centre (downstairs, back door).

Mr. Green's character is 76 to 86 and Ross Gardner is 29 to 35. Both are lead roles.

There will be no appointments for auditions. They will be on a first come, first served basis and will include a cold read from script. It is a non-union production.

. In other Sidekick news, the local theatre group will be staging The Melville Boys next month at the Tsawwassen Arts Centre.

Directed for Sidekick by Taryn Kleeband, the Norm Foster play is about two working class brothers who run into two sisters at a woodsy cabin.

The Melville Boys will run Thursday to Saturday, Jan. 12 to 28.
