With COVID-19 learning outdoors and at a distance is safest, several Delta elementary schools have implemented story strolls.

A story stroll is a way to share, encourage and build a love of literacy outdoors. Story strolls are accessible at many different levels. It is a way to build a community of readers through story.

To create a story stroll and honour copyright teachers and students cut apart two copies of a story, laminate them for extra protection, then mount the story on the display boards with questions and activities and stick it outside.

Teachers Tiffany Cherry and Heather Mack of Hawthorne Elementary recently received a generous donation from local author and Delta police officer Grayson Smith (Peppermint Toast Publishing). Students are enjoying his book "Run" which uses only one word with so many meanings.

"We are grateful for the community support as this is an activity that has been enjoyed before and after school as well by both parents and students,” said Mack.
