Donations for Fraser Valley flood victims came pouring to Tsatsu Shores

Residents of a Tsawwassen First Nation condominium development and the surrounding community have come together to help victims of the devastating flooding in the Fraser Valley.

It was over a week ago Tsatsu Shores resident Lonne Clark organized a pop-up donation centre in the common room of the strata complex. Clark had been in contact with Rick Diamond who runs the Surrey-based Rick’s Heart Foundation, a non-profit charity.

“Rick offered pick-up and delivery if I got it going,” explained Clark. “He is frequently ‘on the ground’ in Abbotsford and knows how bad it is out there.”

Clark put up posters around her building, sent out emails and even put up a post in the Tsawwassen Loop community Facebook group. The response has been overwhelming with packed boxes of donations reaching the ceiling.

“We have collected gently used to brand new items; including clothing, food, personal hygiene, linens, electronics and kitchen items,” continued Clark. “The response and generosity have been incredible!

Diamond came with a truck on Sunday to pick-up all the donations. He also made another stop at a development in New West where Clark’s sister lives.

“We wonder, are any other strata complexes doing something similar, and if not, could they be,” asked Clark. “Maybe this could be a shout out and challenge to other strata’s and organizations in Ladner and Tsawwassen.”
