The South Delta Canadian Federation of University Women is extending its appreciation to local sponsors for their support of the recent provincial annual general meeting held in the Coast Tsawwassen Inn.

This conference is held annually around B.C. and it was the first time it was hosted by South Delta.

Mayor Lois Jackson, MP Kerry-Lynne Findlay, MLA Vicki Huntington and Ruth Adams from the Tsawwassen First Nation welcomed 122 delegates from 23 clubs around the province.

Mayor Dianne Watts of Surrey also sent a letter of greeting, as the conference was organized with the help of the White Rock/Surrey and North Delta/Surrey clubs. The keynote speaker for the event was Shelley Fralic, columnist for the Vancouver Sun.

Local sponsors included Coast Capital, Envision Financial and Vancity, with additional funding from Genus Capital Management of Richmond. A silent auction raised funds for the CFUW National Charitable Trust, which gives bursaries and scholarships to women in postgraduate studies.

CFUW welcomes new members at any time, with a post-secondary certificate or degree, or who support the mission of the club, which is to promote equal rights and education for women and girls.

Women interested in joining can call Cheryl at 604-943-4634 or Anna at 604-943-0042.
