Completing a tax return can be a confusing process for some people. Virtually every government program, rebate and allowance such as the Child Tax Benefit or Guaranteed Income Supplement for Seniors is based on an annual tax return. Even with little or no income, a tax return is still required.

"Each year, we help hundreds of people with their tax returns," says Deltassist executive director Doug Sabourin. "We know that a lot of the government support they receive is tied to their return, and we want to make sure those who rely on government programs can get them."

Although much of the work is done by volunteers, there are a number of expenses involved in providing this service. Thanks to a grant from VanCity, Deltassist can continue to offer this free program without affecting other services it provides in the community.

"We are very grateful for the contribution VanCity has made to our program," says Sabourin. "Without the support we receive from companies and organizations like them, we wouldn't be able to help as many people as we do."

Deltassist is now accepting appointments in advance of the April 30 deadline.
