The staff and residents at the Good Samaritan’s Delta View Care Centre celebrated the IG Wealth Management’s Walk for Alzheimer’s awareness this spring a little differently.

This year’s walk, held in South Delta on May 29, marked a particularly special one for the care centre because the South Delta honorary family this year was Aly Devji.

The Devji Family founded Delta View.

Back in 1976 Jane and Amin Devji started the Ladner private hospital with just 48 beds and through hard work and an unwavering vision the family created Delta View a 292-bed facility; a dementia-friendly, patient-centered facility that many people now call home.

It was an emotional day for many as the Devji family joined the staff and residents in launching their Walk for Alzheimer’s while celebrating the Devji’s wonderful legacy of patient centered care were their focus has always been “Hugs not Drugs.”

Arthur Fabian and the Rehabilitation and Therapeutic Teams planned the logistics of the walk to make sure that all COVID protocols were followed.

“Our teams and the residents were excited about this,” said Fabian. “We trained for a couple of weeks, getting the residents outside to exercise and enjoy the spring weather.” The residents, with the support of the staff, walked or wheeled around Delta View’s beautiful grounds in order to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.

“This was an important day for our residents,” added Spiritual Care Coordinator Shirley Carleton. “Being part of the walk and knowing that their contributions made a difference really lifted their spirits.”
