The challenge is on at the fifth annual Chefs’ Charity Dinner in support of Dan’s Legacy.
Presented by CN Rail and being held in Tsawwassen for the first time, the gala will see chefs create the entire menu using surplus food.
Funds raised at next month’s gala go towards the charity’s therapeutic counselling and life-skills programs for youth battling trauma-based mental health and addictions issues.
Beach Grove Golf Club’s executive chef Froilan Alejo, chef Shay Kelly (The Caterer), chefs TJ Conwi and Bruce Nollert (Ono Vancouver) and pastry chef Vanessa Ferrara (The Caterer) will put their culinary skills to the test, each creating a signature dish for the event using recovered food donated by local growers and grocery chains.
Also new this year is the fact the event has moved from Downtown Vancouver.
“Moving forward we plan on hosting our gala fundraiser in each of the communities we serve, starting with Delta,” said Dan’s Legacy executive director Barbara Coates. “We’ve received outstanding support from the community this past year, and the Chefs’ Dinner is one of the ways we say thank you.”
Coates and three of the directors for Dan’s Legacy are Delta residents, and in 2018 the charity received financial support from the Delta Foundation. For the past year, Dan’s Legacy’s counsellors have been working with at-risk youth referred by the Delta police.
The fundraiser takes place Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the Beach Grove Golf Club. CBC Radio host Angela Sterritt will MC and well-known gala celebrity Fred Lee will return to lead the live auction.
