The South Delta Garden Club welcomes Lucretia Schanfarber to its meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21 at Ladner Christian Reformed Church, 4594-54A St. The topic is growing your own superfoods. Guests are welcome at $5. Tickets for the June 23 garden tour will also be available.

Ambassadors-Tsawwassen Mills Toastmasters Club meets every second, third and fourth Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The next meeting on Tuesday, May 21 will feature a “Speaking Blitz.” Club meets at the Tsawwassen Mills Training Room (enter at Entrance 4, turn left past Old Navy, and it's between Yogibo Bean Bags & Yogen Fruz). Ambassadors always welcome guests. Future engineers, let your creativity go wild at Tsawwassen Library’s Intro to Magformers on Wednesday, May 22 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Discover the power of magnets in a safe environment as you build 3D shapes from the simple to the complex. 

Brit Club lunch on Saturday, May 25 at 12:30 p.m. at the Tsawwassen Legion. You don’t have to be British to attend, you just have to like Britain. Lunch will consist of soup, sandwiches, light dessert and coffee at a reasonable cost. Outings to be discussed. All Saints Anglican Church in Ladner hosts a free monthly community meal at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28.

Are you recently bereaved with limited shopping and cooking skills? Are you lacking confidence in the kitchen? Would you like to meet other adults in similar circumstances? A home-cook-led demo/hands-on group will teach cooking basics in a safe and fun environment. Not appropriate for those with significant food allergies. The group meets at the Centre for Supportive Care in Ladner from 10 a.m. to noon on four Wednesdays, May 29 to June 19. To register call 604-948-0660. Program is complimentary.

Interested in house plants? On Thursday, May 30 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Tsawwassen Library, join Taylor Togal from Sunnyside Nursery for House Plants: Bring Nature Indoor and learn about which plants to choose and how to look after them.

Have you recently experienced the death of a loved one? Then consider joining a safe and supportive group for bereaved adults where you will have opportunities to share with and listen to others in similar situations, and to learn to navigate your grief process. The group meets at the Centre for Supportive Care in Ladner from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for six Wednesdays beginning June 5. To pre-register, call 604-948-0660. Program is complimentary.

Enhance your basic knowledge about dementia at Getting to Know Dementia on Thursday, June 6 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Ladner Pioneer Library. Grab your imagination and get ready to visit a land of magic, monsters and mortals with Dungeons & Dragons in the Tsawwassen Library on Thursday, June 6 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. New and experienced players are welcome. Pizza will be provided. For teens 13+. Space is limited so registration is required. This free program will run on the first Thursday of every month: June 6, July 4 and Aug. 1.

Delta Deas Rowing Club has published its “Learn to Row” schedule for summer 2019. All programs take place at Deas Island Regional Park in Delta. The Tsawwassen Order of Old Bastards (TOOBs) has been quietly helping many South Delta groups and individuals since 1984. The club's fundraising is done through food services at community events such as the Ladner Bandfest and the Tsawwassen Sun Festival. Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue Station 8 Delta is looking for men and women to join the all-volunteer group dedicated to saving lives on the waters around Delta. Do you enjoy knitting or crochet? Would you like to get together with like-minded people to share ideas, techniques and good conversation? Knit & Stitch is offered at all three Delta libraries. It runs Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Ladner Pioneer Library, Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. at Tsawwassen Library and Fridays from 2 to 4 p.m. at George Mackie Library. All ages and abilities are welcome. 

Delta Hospice Society offers a Drop-In Relaxation Circle, led by a music therapist, for those living with cancer or serious illness, as well as their family members and friends, every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Centre for Supportive Care, 4631 Clarence Taylor Cres., Ladner. Program is complimentary.

The Canadian Lifeboat Institution is interviewing potential volunteers to serve as crew or support personnel for its Delta Lifeboat. Professional training is given in seamanship, navigation, medical, and search and rescue techniques. Contact John at 604-760-5218 for more information.

Shari’s Saturday Social Dance is on Saturday, May 18 from 7 to 10:30 p.m. at KinVillage Community Centre. The theme is Red Wine & Roses. Dress style optional but glitz and glamour always welcome. Dance to a wide variety of CD music, including waltzes, jives, cha cha, mambo, soft rock and more. McKee Seniors Recreation Centre in Ladner is looking into offering beginners ukulele lessons if there is support from the community. If you are interested, leave your name and phone number at the front desk by calling 604-946-1411.

Line Dancing with Susana, Latin and ballroom-style classes, are offered at KinVillage Community Centre in Tsawwassen. Classes are at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and 9 a.m. on Fridays for beginners. No partner required.

McKee Seniors Recreation Centre in Ladner is holding Sing-a-long Friday afternoons at 1 p.m. If you enjoy singing for fun, come by and join in.

McKee Walking Club walks rain or shine every Tuesday and Friday. Meet at 9 a.m. in the lobby of the McKee Seniors Recreation Centre.

 

McKee Seniors Recreation Centre needs new members for its carpet bowling club that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is only .50 cents.

A Modelers Club meets at McKee Seniors Recreation Centre Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Members build models of all scales, discuss the hobby, and share tips and secrets. Members must have a current McKee membership.

South Delta Artists Guild’s Small Paintings, Big Impact show will be on view at Gallery 1710 until May 19. The gallery, adjacent to the South Delta Recreation Centre in Tsawwassen, is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday to Sunday. 

Laurel Johnson and Cecilia Mavrow will have an art exhibit in the meeting room of the Tsawwassen Library throughout May.

eCleCtiC café, is Saturday, May 18, 7 to 9 p.m. at McKee Seniors Recreation Centre.  As part of your celebration of Queen Victoria’s birthday (and Elizabeth’s official birthday) join Howard Solverson and his guest as they present an eclectic mix of live music in a comfy coffee house setting.  Members $5; non-members $7. Coffee, tea and goodies will be served.

Tsawwassen United Church extends a broad invitation to all artists, artisans, musicians and the public to its seventh annual Transformation Arts Fair Weekend that runs all day on Sunday, May 26. The 15th annual Ladner Bandfest will be held June 1 and 2. The event brings amateur community concert bands to Ladner for continuous free 40-minute concerts on two stages throughout the weekend between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. in Memorial Park. A highlight is a performance by the Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy on Sunday at 4:40 p.m. For more information visit https://www.ladnerbandfest.org.

If you love music and have a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument, then join Loades of Music Concert Band. Share the joy of making music with other adult musicians.
