Parkinson’s support group meeting will be held on Monday, June 17 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at KinVillage in Tsawwassen. The group is for people living with Parkinson's and/or the people who care for them. For more information call Gloria at 604-948-0156.

 

Janis Matson, horticulturist and owner of Shoreline Landscaping, will be advising the South Delta Garden Club on the best trees for smaller lots on Tuesday, June 18 at 7 p.m. The club meets at Ladner Christian Reformed Church, 4594-54A St. Guest are welcome to attend for a $5 fee.

 

Ambassadors-Tsawwassen Mills Toastmasters Club meets every second, third and fourth Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The theme of the next meeting on Tuesday, June 18 is “Speaking Blitz.” The club specializes in fun, public speaking and leadership training. Club meets at the Tsawwassen Mills Training Room (enter at Entrance 4, turn left past Old Navy, and it's between Yogibo Bean Bags & Yogen Fruz). Ambassadors always welcome guests. The Probus Club of South Delta, a non-profit club for retired and semi-retired people who wish to gather with others to enjoy learning and fellowship, will hold its monthly meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19 at the Coast Tsawwassen Inn. SD Newcomers is welcoming the summer season by having its annual Strawberry Tea on Thursday, June 20 at 7:15 p.m. at Gallery 1710 on 56th Street in Tsawwassen. There will be a review of activities of the past year and an opportunity to sign up for annual summer events.

 

Brit Club lunch on Saturday, June 22 at 12:30 p.m. at the Tsawwassen Legion. You don’t have to be British to attend, you just have to like Britain. Lunch will consist of soup, sandwiches, light dessert and coffee at a reasonable cost. Outings to be discussed. Delta Spinners & Weavers have a change in plans for this month as they will be meeting on the fourth Monday of the month instead of the third Monday. Their next meeting is Monday, June 24 at 1 p.m. at Kirkland House, 4140 Arthur Dr. Bring your creative spirit to be encouraged as a beginner or reacquaint yourself with these traditions in a casual setting. All Saints Anglican Church in Ladner hosts a free monthly community meal at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25.

Cyclists who want to ride with others for fun and fitness can meet in the Ladner Pioneer Library parking lot Tuesdays and Thursdays weather permitting. Delta Deas Rowing Club has published its “Learn to Row” schedule for summer 2019. All programs take place at Deas Island Regional Park in Delta. Rowing is a “sport for life” and the club offers programs for high school students as well as adults from 18 to 88 years of age. Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue Station 8 Delta is looking for men and women to join the all-volunteer group dedicated to saving lives on the waters around Delta. Do you enjoy knitting or crochet? Would you like to get together with like-minded people to share ideas, techniques and good conversation? Knit & Stitch is offered at all three Delta libraries. It runs Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Ladner Pioneer Library, Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. at Tsawwassen Library and Fridays from 2 to 4 p.m. at George Mackie Library. All ages and abilities are welcome. 

 

Delta Hospice Society offers a Drop-In Relaxation Circle, led by a music therapist, for those living with cancer or serious illness, as well as their family members and friends, every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Centre for Supportive Care, 4631 Clarence Taylor Cres., Ladner. Program is complimentary.

KinVillage Travel is hosting a trip that includes lunch at the Sylvia Hotel followed by a visit to the Vancouver Aquarium on Thursday, June 20. Bus leaves White Spot in Tsawwassen at 9:45 a.m. and from McKee Seniors Recreation Centre in Ladner at 10 a.m., returning at approximately 4 p.m. Cost is $79 for members and $82 for guests. Canada Day celebration at KinVillage Community Centre in Tsawwassen on Friday, June 29 at 1:30 p.m. Entertainment by Music Variations. Cake and refreshments will be served. Admission is free.

 

McKee’s Country BBQ will be held on Saturday, July 13 from 4 to 9 p.m. There will be entertainment, burgers, salads and dessert, and a cash bar. Members are $15, non-members $17. Tickets on sale June 10.

McKee Seniors Recreation Centre needs new members for its carpet bowling club that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is only 50 cents.

 

A Modelers Club meets at McKee Seniors Recreation Centre Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Members build models of all scales, discuss the hobby, and share tips and secrets. Members must have a current McKee membership.

SPECIAL EVENTS

 

Boundary Bay Park Association and Tsawwassen Boundary Bay Lions Club will host Sunday in the Park on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16. The Lions will prepare a pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon at Centennial Beach. Cost is $6 for adults (13 and over) and $3 for children. Entertainment will be provided by The Karmichaels band. ARTS

 

Local artist Corinne Bucher is the featured artist at the Tsawwassen Library in June. Her exhibit is titled: If the Ocean could talk, would you listen? It’s on view in the meeting room during regular library hours until June 30.

 

Jazz Night at Petra's by L'Aromas on Friday, June 14 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 at petrasjazz.brownpapertickets.com or $35 at the door. Show will feature Brad Muirhead (trombone), Kevin Lee (trumpet), Stephen Robb (reeds/keys), Ron Samworth (guitar), Jennifer Scott (voice), Stan Taylor (drums) and Brent Gubbles (bass). Funds raised will go towards the 2019 South Delta Jazz Festival and Workshop, July 2 to 6.

 

Registration is now open for Delta Community Music School’s annual student jazz workshop. Part of the South Delta Jazz Festival, the workshop runs from Tuesday, July 2 to Saturday, July 6. The one-week program is designed to give musicians the opportunity to explore and deepen their knowledge of jazz improvisation and performance. More information at www.southdeltajazzfestival.com.
