SD Newcomers welcomes fashion historian Ivan Sayers as the guest speaker at its next meeting on Thursday, April 18 at Gallery 1710 at 7:15 p.m. From bustles to corsets to mini-skirts, Sayers will cover 100 years of fashion in the 20th century.

 

Anger management group for women who have experienced any form of relationship violence. This series runs every Thursday from April 18 to May 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Deltassist’s North Delta office. The next meeting of the Canadian Federation of University Women South Delta is on Tuesday, April 23 at 7:15 p.m. Speaker Steve Morgan, a professor in the school of population and public health at UBC, is Canada’s leading expert on national pharmacare. The meeting is open to the public.Membership in CFUW is open to all women (a university degree is not a pre-requisite) to come together to engage in advocacy, hear a variety of speakers and join special interest groups. Ambassadors-Tsawwassen Mills Toastmasters Club meets every second, third and fourth Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The theme of the next meeting on Tuesday, April 23 is "Show and Tell." Jane Reid, author of Picked: A Locavore's Love Affair with B.C.’s Bounty, will read from her book at the Ladner Pioneer Library on Thursday, April 25 from 2 to 3 p.m. and at the Tsawwassen Library on Friday, April 26 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

 

There will be a Brit Club lunch on Saturday, April 27 at 12:30 at the Tsawwassen Legion. You don’t have to be British to attend, you just have to like Britain. Are you recently bereaved with limited shopping and cooking skills? Are you lacking confidence in the kitchen? Would you like to meet other adults in similar circumstances? A home-cook-led demo/hands-on group will teach cooking basics in a safe and fun environment. Not appropriate for those with significant food allergies. Delta Deas Rowing Club has published its “Learn to Row” schedule for spring and summer 2019. All programs take place at Deas Island Park. Rowing is a “sport for life” and the club offers programs for teens as well as adults from 18 to 88 years of age. Sessions are available at a wide range of times during the week and weekend. Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue Station 8 Delta is looking for men and women to join the all-volunteer group dedicated to saving lives on the waters around Delta. Bereaved and in need of better self-care and relaxation practices? Then join a music-therapist-led adult group where you will learn a variety of self-care techniques and participate in experiential guided relaxation to help you address feelings of depression, exhaustion and anxiety as they relate to grief. Delta Hospice Society offers a Drop-In Relaxation Circle, led by a music therapist, for those living with cancer or serious illness, as well as their family members and friends, every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Centre for Supportive Care, 4631 Clarence Taylor Cres., Ladner. Community Resources and Support Systems and How to Access them in Delta is a fireside chat with Eva Busich-Veloso, seniors’ support coordinator for the City of Delta. Learn how to navigate government systems, services and various supports for seniors in the community. The free event will be held on Thursday, April 25 at 11 a.m. at KinVillage Community Centre in Tsawwassen.

McKee Seniors Recreation Centre needs new members for its carpet bowling club that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is only .50 cents.

 

A Modelers Club meets at McKee Seniors Recreation Centre Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Members build models of all scales, discuss the hobby, and share tips and secrets. Members must have a current McKee membership.

ElderCollege Delta presents Jack the Ripper and the Royal Family on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to noon at Cedar Park Church in Ladner. Dr. Simon Devereaux will talk about the theories and myths surrounding these crime and their possible link to royalty or senior levels of government. Free to members. ElderCollege Delta and KinVillage present Brass 101 by the Trilogy Brass Trio on Tuesday, April 30 from 2 to 3 p.m. at KinVillage in Tsawwassen. Enjoy the music of three members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra playing classics, jazz and pop music. Some audience members will have an opportunity to accompany the musicians with percussion instruments. This free event is open to all. See, the South Delta Artists' Guild new show, runs until the end of April at Gallery 1710 in Tsawwassen. Open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday to Sunday, Gallery 1710 is on 56th Street adjacent to the South Delta Recreation Centre.

 

The Wander Inn Cafe is open on Saturday, April 20 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Lighthouse Church, 5545 Ladner Trunk Rd. Performances start at 7:30 p.m. with the jazz, blues, folk and pop sounds of singer/songwriters Jack Noble and Angelica Largo followed by the cover band None of the Above  with lead vocalist Tina Hoell. The five-member band plays classic rock, blues and pop. Entrance: suggested $7 donation (covers entertainment, beverages, goodies and supports the outreach work by Freshwave Ministries).

Delta Concert Band will perform at KinVillage Community Centre in Tsawwassen from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. Admission by donation. Doors open at 2 p.m.

 

If you love music and have a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument, then join Loades of Music Concert Band. Share the joy of making music with other adult musicians.
