The South Delta Newcomers’ 2018/2019 season begins with a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 7:15 p.m. at Kiwanis Longhouse/Gallery 1710 in Tsawwassen. The meeting offers an evening of getting to know each other through introductions, short presentations and lots of socializing.
Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditionsis a free six-week workshop at Deltassist on Fridays, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., starting Sept. 21. Join up to Sept. 28. Family Games Afternoon runs every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Dec. 8 at the Tsawwassen Library. Unplug and reconnect with your family by playing board games. Enjoy one of the many games provided by the library or bring your favourites.
Lego Club runs every Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Tsawwassen Library until Nov. 14. Lego Club is a fun afternoon program for kids. Lego provided. Children under five must be accompanied by an adult.
InspireHealth, a supportive cancer care organization approved by the BC Ministry of Health, is offering a free one-day Supportive Cancer Care Workshop at the Centre for Supportive Care on Friday, Sept. 21. Educational and interactive sessions are led by an InspireHealth physician and nutritionist. Tea and light refreshments are provided; participants supply their own lunch. The workshop is open to adults with a current or past cancer diagnosis. Family members and support people are also welcome. To register, call InspireHealth at 604-734-7125.
Are you providing care and/or support for a family member or friend who is in poor health, is frail elderly or has a disability or chronic disease causing dependency? The South Delta Caregivers' Network is offering an education series and support group starting Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. once a week for six weeks. Cost is $40. Topics covered include caregiver stress, communication techniques, role and lifestyle changes, accessing community resources, and legal and financial issues. If you know or have a child who is grieving the loss of significant person, consider Kids Grieve Too, counsellor-led bereavement support groups for children aged seven to 12. These groups apply expressive arts and play to reduce anxiety and anger, promote healthy expression of difficult emotions, increase understanding of grief and loss, and provide support through connection with others. The next group meets at the Centre for Supportive Care in Ladner on Mondays from 4 to 6 p.m. from Oct. 15 to Nov. 26. For more information or to pre-register, call 604-948-0660. The Knitting Sisters, who knit and crochet for charities, meet as a drop-in from 10 a.m. to noon on the first and third Saturdays of the month at McKee Seniors Recreation Centre in Ladner. Delta Hospice will offer a Volunteer Training Program from Oct. 1 to Nov. 8. The 30-hour program will run Monday and Thursday mornings, 9:30 a.m. to noon. It provides training for those wishing to join a team of kind, caring volunteers who support people at end of life and in bereavement. Call 604-948-0660 for more information.
Delta Hospice Society offers a Drop-In Relaxation Circle, led by a music therapist, for those living with cancer or serious illness, as well as their family members and friends, every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Centre for Supportive Care, 4631 Clarence Taylor Cres., Ladner. Program is complimentary.

There will not be a Delta Photo Club meeting at KinVillage on Sept. 26. Instead, the club is holding its first official outing of the new season - an evening photo walk at Granville Island. It will be a chance to practice low light/long shutter speed technique and creatively manage exposure considerations. ElderCollege Delta will be offering a varied program of courses, presentations and field trips geared for adults over 50 this fall. The semester begins in October and with a $10 annual membership fee and modest individual course fees, ElderCollege learning is both affordable and varied. GreenFlix is a free documentary film series launching on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Ladner United Church. Sponsored by the South Delta Greens of BC, the first film of this monthly series is The Economics of Happiness, which questions conventional assumptions about the benefits of a growing global economy. The Wander Inn Café’s first show of the season is on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. at 5545 Ladner Trunk Rd. (inside the church). Enjoy performances from Delta's own Zoi Weekley, overall winner of 2018 Delta's Got Talent, and Sadie Karmazyn, who has performed with Delta Tapestry and the Sidekick Players. Sharing the platform are Erin (nee Arding) and Jeremy Stewart who weave threads of folk, punk and pop/rock. Entrance is by a suggested $7 donation, which covers the entertainment, beverages and goodies.
If you love music and have a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument, then join Loades of Music Concert Band. Share the joy of making music with other adult musicians.
