Several Delta students won top awards at the provincial French speaking competition.

More than 10,000 students from across the province competed with 209 students making the finals including 12 from Delta in this year’s pan-provincial French public speaking competition, Concours d'art oratoire, which were hosted on May 4 at SFU in Surrey.

“Concours is an outstanding showcase and celebration of excellence in French language education,” said Greer Cummings, President of Canadian Parents for French BC & Yukon. “Through participation in Concours, students develop their public speaking and relationship building skills in French, and ultimately the confidence to express their ideas clearly. These capacities are highly valued in today's global society, making these students more adaptable and employable in a dynamic and competitive landscape.”

Provincial winners from Delta included: Anka Stefanovic from Southpointe Academy who won first place in grade 8/9 Core French; Lucas Bircher from Richardson Elementary who won the Grade 7 early immersion prize and Ravinder Sheena from Burnsview Secondary who won third place in Grade 11 immersion.

The provincial finalists from Delta included: Amelia Wade, South Park Elementary; Rajinder Sheena, Burnsview; Sophia Kulikov, South Delta Secondary; Juliette Smith, Ladner Elementary; Ashley Liang, Burnsview; Tanisha Misra, North Delta Secondary; Maggie Stewart, SDSS; Rosie Murano, Burnsview and Christie Liu, Southpointe Academy.
