The lineup of horticultural speakers at the South Delta Garden Club continues with Leanne Johnson on March 17.

A self-proclaimed “plant nut,” Leanne Johnson will share her vast experience with the South Delta Garden Club next week.

Johnson will present club members and guests with inspiring tips and tricks for small garden design as well as with ideal flower and veggie selections for flourishing tiny garden spaces, whether on a balcony, in a townhouse garden or on a limited-sized residential lot.

Johnson is president of B.C.’s largest independent retail garden centre company, GardenWorks.

She is passionate about connecting people to the natural world through gardening. In 2019, the BC Landscape and Nursery Association recognized her as the Garden Communicator of the Year. Most recently, she engaged audiences at the BC Home and Garden Show where she was a featured speaker.

Horticultural enthusiasts can also see her regularly on Saturday mornings on Global TV’s gardening segment or join her in seminars on growing vegetables at the Balcony Garden exhibit at Science World.

She also enjoys puttering in her backyard greenhouse growing lemons, limes, unusual succulents, tropical plants and nutritious, not-always-perfect veggies.

Her presentation, Great Gardening in Small Spaces, takes place on Tuesday, March 17 at Ladner Christian Reformed Church, 4594-54A St. Doors open at 7 p.m. with speaker presentation from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., followed by refreshments. This event is free to members. Guests are welcome for a $5 fee at the door.

The South Delta Garden Club is comprised of 200 local gardening enthusiasts, men and women who gather to share information in a positive social environment. Club activities include day tours, visits to members’ gardens, workshops, work parties and fundraising events to support community projects. Featured speaker events are open to both members and the public.
