School-aged children from all socio-economic backgrounds can be exposed to dangerous pathways and gang-related behaviour.

The Delta School District is offering a free information session next week for parents to understand what is really going on in the online world their kids are living in.

Keeping Our Children Safe forms part of a province-wide outreach program aimed at helping parents and families of school-aged children prevent potential problems by being aware of the pathways to gang involvement and risks of online activity.

Organized by Safe Schools Together, guest speaker Jordan Buna, a consultant and trainer with Safe Schools Together, will cover topics such as: what is a youth gang, why kids get attracted to the lifestyle, changes to look for in your child if you think they're involved in gang activity and strategies to keep them safe if you think they are in danger of heading down that road.

The session, which supports the Delta School District's priorities of providing a safe and supportive learning community for children, takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Genesis Theatre in Delta Secondary.

It is being offered by the district in association with Gang Reduction through Information Practice (GRIP), the Ministry of Education and Safer Schools Together.
