In between working on their various art projects and also acting as docents for South Delta Artists Guild's current Oil and Water exhibition at Gallery 1710, members in the Friday morning group took time out last Friday for a two-way celebration in their studio.

The 95th birthday of long-time guild member Wynn Dennett was due the following day and that was all anyone needed to set up a wine and cheese, fresh fruit and birthday cake party for the popular, talented and very active artist, who continues to participate in the regular guild shows.

The coincidental second reason for the celebration was to mark the 60th anniversary of the arrival in Canada, from England, of Noreen Fairweather, who sailed up the St. Lawrence on Aug. 8, 1954, marvelling at the wonderful scent of the forests wafting on the breeze. Winter (and Hurricane Hazel)

in Toronto, then travel in North America until she arrived in Vancouver in June, 1956, moved to Ladner in 1988, and joined the guild a year or so later.

The volunteer-run South Delta Artists Guild provides a wide range of artistic activity for members and non-members, ranging from four regular drop in programs throughout the week, demonstrations by leading artists, its regular exhibits, and the annual Oil and Water juried competition now on show until Aug. 23. The guild offers art workshops in its outstanding studio space at Gallery 1710, and full details of upcoming programs can be found at: southdeltaartistsguild@gmail.com.
