A community golf day to benefit Reach Child and Youth Development Society is planned for Saturday, Aug. 11 at The Links at Hampton Cove in Ladner.

The Hampton Cove Community Open encourages the community to come together for summer fun and raise awareness and funds for local children and youth with special needs at Reach.

With organizing sponsors paying the green fees, all play at the nine-hole course is by donation. The day’s play will feature numerous contests, including hole-in-one prizes of $10,000, a Reach Family Fun area and a Trivia Tour with a focus on local heritage. There will also be competitions for individuals, partners and families.

Reach is a non-profit society that has been providing services to children and their families since 1959. Development manager Kristin Bibbs is appreciative of how fellow Deltans have come forward with fundraising initiatives like the Hampton Cove event to support children with special needs.

“Hosting a golf tournament with the goal of bringing community members together is such a thoughtful and benevolent act on the part of the organizing sponsors, and we are honoured to have been made a part of this exciting event,” says Bibbs.

The event has been spearheaded by organizing sponsors Glenn Issler, Michael Lepore and The Links at Hampton Cove.

“Three neighbours got together for coffee, made some notes on a napkin and this terrific community event was born,” says Issler. “It all happened very quickly.”

Lepore says when a community comes together, great things can happen.

“We want to bring new neighbours, friends, colleagues and local businesses together and make a positive contribution to a great local organization.”

Earl Francis, director of golf operations at The Links at Hampton Cove, is excited for the course to play host to the event.

“With the recent grand opening of our clubhouse and the great improvements to the golf course over the past couple of years, we are delighted to join as an organizing sponsor to this, our first, major charity tournament at the course.”
