Delta is celebrating BC Heritage Week from Feb. 18 to 24 with free heritage-themed events.

“Heritage in all its forms has the power to bring people together and strengthen a sense of community and belonging,” said Mayor George Harvie in a press release. “During Heritage Week, I encourage residents to partake in our events, celebrating aspects of Delta’s unique cultural heritage.”

Events include:

Vintage Movie Night, Feb. 20, 6 to 8 p.m. at Tsawwassen Arts Centre

A vintage movie night features movies with historical commentary from Delta Heritage Society’s film and video collection. Enjoy fresh-popped popcorn while these films take you back in time, to Delta in the 1930s and community and family life in 1949.

CultureFest, Feb. 23, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at North Delta Recreation Centre

CultureFest is a free one-day cultural festival celebrating Delta’s many cultures through arts, performances, foods, and crafts.

Heritage Day at Cammidge House, Feb. 24 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Step back in time for an afternoon of tea at the Cammidge House and try your hand at some old-fashioned crafts.

Also, as part of Heritage Week, the city is offering a Heritage Advisory Commission Scholarship that is available to a graduating high school student residing in Delta.

Applications for this $1,000 scholarship will be accepted from Feb. 18 to May 30. Heritage conservation grants are also available to support the repair and restoration of heritage buildings. For more information on the heritage scholarship and grant opportunities, visit delta.ca/heritage.
