Her love of community and its wonderful natural setting is the inspiration for a new calendar and fundraising project for photographer Nicola McGuire.

McGuire has recently released her Heron’s Landing (Home to Ladner Village) 2019/2020 calendar, which is filled with her photos paying homage to the area’s natural beauty.

Recently re-located back to South Delta, McGuire started sharing her photos in the Ladner’s Landing Facebook group.

She said residents were so impressed with her work she was encouraged to put them together in a complete form.

“At first the thought of posting a photo on Ladner’s Landing – I had a thought of fear around that, so I decided to face the fear and do it anyway,” she said. “From there I had a big response and it was suggested to create a calendar.”

From the calendar came an idea to build a fundraising initiative.

“So now I’m selling calendars at multiple stores and businesses throughout Ladner and proceeds are going to support the Delta (Community) Animal Shelter and I’m also raising funds for the Ladner Business Association’s Light up the Landing project, as well, I’m working on collecting money, food and gift cards for a huge Christmas basket for the food bank.”

McGuire has been invited to sell her calendars on Sunday, Oct. 27 at Vandula Farms’ Pumpkin Patch Festival. The Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society (OWL), which McGuire recently partnered with for an online art auction, will be at her table from noon to 4 p.m. She will also be at Vandula on Saturday, Oct. 26.

She also will be at Port Guichon Elementary selling calendars at its Winter Market on Nov. 30 and calendars will be for sale at Superior Fish, Country Lane Gallery, Evolutions Hair Salon and Jarry’s Market. She also plans to be at several markets throughout the holiday season.

“I was also at Emma Lee Farms on Oct. 20 for their pumpkin festival, so a big thanks to them,” she said. “I also want to thank Sure Copy and the support of the LBA and all the other community residents and businesses for their support. It’s just amazing and overwhelming how this has all come together.”

Any other businesses or residents who would like to purchase a calendar or make a donation to the project can contact McGuire at 604-308-0211 or email: [email protected].
