As residents of Delta, we frequently hear that we live in a potentially dangerous part of British Columbia when it comes to earthquakes. How do we separate media hype from fact? How does our community make decisions on an informed basis?

ElderCollege Delta presents Delta – Its Geology and Geologic Hazards with Dr. John Clague next weekend in Ladner. The special presentation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to noon at Cedar Park Church.

Clague, a professor emeritus and director of the Centre For Natural Hazard Research at SFU, will discuss the geologic architecture of the Fraser River delta and the hazards it poses for those living on its surface.

Clague will focus on the effects a strong earthquake would have on Delta and the consequences of sea-level rise that scientists anticipate later this century.

Clague has authored many books on B.C. geological structure and some of these will be on hand for autographing.

The presentation is free to all current members of ElderCollege Delta. Any interested parties are invited to take out a $10 membership that can be paid at the door before 10 a.m.

Registration is required for seating and refreshments. Call 604-943-0262 or

email eldercollegedelta@kinVillage.org no later than Friday, Oct. 26.
