Minister's Minute: Check out this fruit

“You’ll never find choice fruit hanging on a bad, unhealthy tree. And rotten fruit doesn’t hang on a good, healthy tree. Every tree will be revealed by the quality of fruit that it produces.

People are known in this same way. Out of the virtue stored in their hearts, good and upright people will produce good fruit. But out of the evil hidden in their hearts, evil ones will produce what is evil. For the overflow of what has been stored in your heart will be seen by your fruit and will be heard in your words.” Luke 6:43-45

Here’s the truth. The evidence or fruit (as the bible calls it) you see in your life represents what has been stored in your heart – what is happening on the inside. Your root system. Just like plants, you can produce good fruit and bad fruit.

I have yet to meet a person that has the passion or desire to produce bad fruit. Our tendency, though, is to focus on what we can see above the surface, yet 80 per cent of what emerges from a plant is connected to the root system.

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”Colossians 2:6-7

What you are rooted in matters. Where you are planted matters. Everyone can produce good fruit, but you have to plant yourself in good soil. Healthy roots can only develop in nutrient rich soil, and Jesus is that rich soil for you.

Root yourself in the goodness of Jesus. Find a good church -- there are many in this community --- and plant yourself.
