Minister’s Minute: Matter matters to God

Believe it or not, matter matters to God. The very substance of our lives; flesh, bone and all that makes us who we are matters deeply to God. This includes the clothes on our backs, the cars we drive, and the houses and apartments we live in.

Believe it or not, matter matters to God. The very substance of our lives; flesh, bone and all that makes us who we are matters deeply to God. This includes the clothes on our backs, the cars we drive, and the houses and apartments we live in.

We believe in a God who cares deeply for us and our well being. We matter to God because we come from God and are made in the image and likeness of God. We all, through our unique identities, show the face of God to others and the world.

If we come from God, then we belong to God, and everything we have – the stuff of our lives – comes from God. We may argue that our homes were built by people and we paid good, hard earned money for them. Indeed, we have and continue to pay off mortgages and rent. But because we are made by God, all our ability and skill, reason, money and experience come from God and belongs to God because in the beginning, God created. We form God’s creation and the substance of our lives is a part of God’s creation that we help create through God.

Because we see the face of God in our neighbours and world, this gives us a responsibility to be in right relationship with others. For when we go out into the world, we see the face of God in others, and they in turn see the face of God in us.
