Minister's Minute: Sift through the layers

“Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go as the one who will keep you on track.

“Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go as the one who will keep you on track.” (Proverbs 3: 5 – 6, The Message)

In the times we face through daily life, we can become very torn as to how we respond. Sometimes we get overwhelmed, confused, and wonder why so many things seem to press in on us all at once. In the times we feel called on to be engaged in societal or personal issue and don’t feel ready, capable or knowledgeable enough, we may feel like just pulling back or hiding away.

Whether it is the challenge of voting from a list of multiple candidates that you don’t know, or the moral, ethical and practical questions surrounding the legalization of marijuana, you might be swirling in the grief of the loss of a beloved family member or friend.

It is here that the wisdom of scripture can encourage us to do the faithful, healthy and ultimately life giving thing. Call on the wise council of a trusted friend or pastor who will not tell you what you should think, feel or do, but will help you sift through the layers of questions, doubts and understandings.

Then trust in God’s presence that affirms you are not alone, you have not nor ever will be abandoned, and as you centre your heart in the sustaining Grace of God’s Holy Spirit you will find some peace in body, mind and spirit.
