The South Delta Artists Guild’s 16th annual Oil & Water show opens next week at Gallery 1710 in Tsawwassen.

The show is widely anticipated by artists all over the province and entries are planned months in advance.

Approximately 300 paintings are entered in the juried show, but only about 80 are chosen to hang in Gallery 1710.

The names of the three jurists aren’t divulged until the opening reception. They are always signature members of the Federation of Canadian Artists and because of their stature in the art world, they’re adept at spotting a star among the entries.

The show opens on Thursday, May 30 with a reception at 6:30 p.m. for artists, sponsors and patrons. Awards are presented and ribbons will hang next to the chosen paintings.

The public will also get a chance to cast a ballot as one painting will be selected as the People’s Choice.

The show runs until June 22. Gallery 1710 hours will be extended during the show as it will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday and until 8 p.m. on Thursday.

The gallery is at 1710-56th St. (adjacent to the South Delta Recreation Centre).
