Would-be students and their parents can get a chance to learn more about the programs offered at the annual Delta Academy open house on Saturday.

The open house is set for Saturday, Jan. 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Delta School District office (4585 Harvest Dr., Ladner).

All teacher coordinators along with coaches and instructors from the 11 academies will be on hand in an informal, information booth set-up where participants can move through the room speaking with the academy staff and learning more about the programs.

Delta Academy offers dance, film acting, film production, visual effects, performance and on the sporting side, baseball, basketball, golf, lacrosse, soccer and softball.

Paige Hansen, the vice principal of academies and choice learning, said the open house allows students to get a better feel for the academy experience.

“We always encourage kids to also come out and experience a day at the academy, so if after the open house they want to do that, they are always welcome,” said Hansen. “We have a very innovative school district that offers a great deal of choice to students. We are very unique in that way and we believe that these programs lead to high student engagement and a lot of times it creates a space where kids are really excited to come to school. The students are passionate about their chosen field of study and the teachers help foster that passion as well.”

If parents of Grade 7 students or any grade are interested in learning more about the academy, they can check out the programs at: http://www.deltaacademies.ca/, email Hansen at deltaacademies@delta.bc.ca or call 604-952-5374.

Academy programs are open to male and female students from grades 8 to 12.
