The 10th annual Christmas dinner organized by the Ladner Community Kitchen drew a record crowd of about 130 to Lighthouse Church last week.

The evening started on a cheerful note with Pat Rogers playing the piano and Rhonda Doram leading the carols. The gift table, with handbags for the ladies and Totes for the men, was stuffed with goodies and is one of the highlights of the evening.

The kids got to choose gifts from the table too and this year they also enjoyed visiting the craft table to decorate cookies. Then to everyone’s delight, there was also a surprise visit from Santa.

“This humble event, which started with just a few people, has now become an annual Christmas tradition for many of our guests and provides an opportunity to enjoy a sumptuous Christmas dinner with family and friends in a cheerful, festive setting,” says organizer Jini Aroon.

This year’s donors included the Lions Club of Tsawwassen/Boundary Bay, Everybody Wellness Clinic, Delta Police Department, Rotary Club of Tsawwassen, Augustine House, Save-on Foods, Beta Sigma Psi Sorority of Tsawwassen, Fresh Start Foods, Backroads Farm, Harris Nursery, Sundance Pub and Raymond James.

Aroon also extends a whole-hearted thank you to the special team of volunteers that helped put on the Christmas event.

A regular team of dedicated volunteers also supports the Ladner Community Kitchen year round by serving food every Wednesday morning at the South Delta Food Bank, which operates out of Lighthouse Church at 5545 Ladner Trunk Rd.
