The Rotary Club of Tsawwassen has handed out $1,200 scholarships to a pair of graduating South Delta students.

The Rotary Club of Tsawwassen Scholarship was presented to Simon Hawke, who is heading to the University of Western Ontario in September.

Requisites for the scholarship are academic excellence coupled with participation in the broader community. Staff at SDSS determine the student to be awarded.

The William Kushnir Rotary Club of Tsawwassen Scholarship was presented to Olivia Wickett, who is heading off to the University of Alberta.

The scholarship is named after Kushnir who is remembered for his service locally as a teacher, principal, coach and, earlier in life, as a professional football player with the Calgary Stampeders and B.C. Lions.

A group in the Tsawwassen Rotary Club determines the student to be awarded. The requisites for this award include academic excellence and participation in athletic endeavours at a high level as a player or coach in chosen sports at SDSS and in the community.

The Rotary Club of Tsawwassen receives many applications from young people graduating and searching out scholarships. This year the applicants were of a very high level.
