Local singing students of Tracy Neff’s put on a strong showing at the recent Coquitlam Music Festival.

Tsawwassen’s Claire Bidulka, 15, finished first in the 18 and under concert group and took home an award for the competitor showing most promise, while North Delta’s Alex Sheppard-Reid, 11, placed first in the comedy solo 12 and under section and snagged an outstanding male vocalist award.

Bidulka, who sang a selection of songs in Italian, German and English, said it was “quite an honour” to be acknowledged for something she loves doing.

Sheppard-Reid said it “was really fun” to win.

Neff said as a voice teacher she really like these types of events in part because it gives students the motivation to craft a song and perfect it.

Neff also had student Indi Keady receive two third place standings while Georgia Kwiatkowski received a second place finish and Molly Millward had a third place finish.

“I’m always very proud of these young people. They are all very accomplished, professional and they really represent our community in a positive way,” Neff said.
