A new songwriter's café gets started Saturday at St. David's Anglican Church in Tsawwassen.

There will be an open stage segment where participants can try out their tunes followed by a performance from a featured experienced songwriter.

Ladner's Allen des Noyers, who is organizing the event, says the idea is for a songwriter's café to take place on the first Saturday of each month.

In some ways it's a chance to try out material, he notes.

"It's really about trying to make a connection with your audience and putting a song out there," he says.

des Noyers, who has been writing songs and musicals for over 30 years, will be the featured performer tomorrow. He has toured around Europe and the U.S. and has worked as a producer as well.

He says singer/songwriter Ross Douglas will be performing next month. The first songwriter's café is set for Saturday, May 3 at 7 p.m. at St. David's Anglican Church.

Performer registration is from 7 to 7:25 p.m. Performances start at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 but performers get in for free.

Participants can play two or three songs depending on how many attend.
