South Delta artists have a new corner to showcase their work.
Localz Urban Café on Delta Street in Ladner Village has created Kelley's Artists Corner thanks to its newest owner, Kelley Morgan.
“I approached Kelley a while ago when she had just put on a fresh coat of paint and the walls were bare. Being rather new to Delta (five years) it dawned on me that there are so many places people can place their art so others can appreciate it and connect with an artist that they might like to see more of,” said artist Debra Ann Renner. “Kelly was thrilled at the idea and had discussed this with her daughter many times to put up local art.”
Renner said there is a wonderful group of talented artists in Delta already with well-established careers, so why not show off the work they do.
“There are new artists all the time that are just starting up,” added Renner. “Even though they might have painted for years or decades, their jobs and careers have kept them from really getting into it. I'm calling my work ‘Fresh Art’ because I am of the latter category. I've painted in many mediums, watercolour, acrylic and now I'm learning a new way of painting in collage form. It's fun, adventurous and playful.”
Over the next several weeks Renner and another artist friend will be showing their art in Kelley's Artists Corner. She hopes many other artists will join her in showing and selling their art at Localz.
“We love art and we love serving the community,” said Morgan. “We appreciate the opportunity for others to show off their work.”
