The Tsawwassen Rotary Club will recognize UN International Peace Day with a special event Friday.

The annual Peace Day celebration will be held at the peace pole in Rotary Square at the Tsawwassen Town Centre Mall at 3:30 p.m.

Rotarians will be joined by officials from the City of Delta, Delta South MLA Ian Paton, Delta MP Carla Qualtrough as well as members of the Delta police and fire departments. The Tsawwassen First Nation will also be a part of the celebration.

“As peace is one of the objectives of Rotary, we are always working towards a peaceful world and peaceful communities,” said Rotarian John Anderson. “Because we regard Delta as a peaceful community, we feel it is worth celebrating.”

Along with remarks from the assembled guests, members of the Rotary Interact Club from South Delta Secondary will be on hand to speak about the eight pillars of peace (well-functioning government, good relations with neighbours, low levels of corruption, acceptance of the rights of others, equitable distribution of resources, free flow of information, sound business environment and high level of human capital).

Rotarians will also recognize a member of the community who contributes to making Delta a peaceful community with the inaugural Tsawwassen Rotary Club Peace Builder Award.

The public is invited to come out and share in the event.
