Prost! The Rotary Club of Tsawwassen presents Delta Oktoberfest next Friday.

Last year's event attracted about 300 people, notes Rotary member Christian Rode.

"It was such a blast last year; great food, great atmosphere," he says.

There will be food from Ossie's Deli & Meats, a lineup of German beers and music from the band S-Bahn.

Rode says there will be a beer drinking contest and perhaps a yodeling contest.

He also explains that one of the beers served at the Tsawwassen event, Hacker Pschorr, will be from the same batch the brewery is serving at the actual Oktoberfest in Munich.

Other beer choices include Radeberger and Bitburger.

Millions attend Oktoberfest, a festival celebrating beer, in Munich each year.

Proceeds from the local event will go back into the community, Rode explains.

Previous projects from the service club include Rotary Square at the Town Centre Mall and the waterpark at Diefenbaker Park. Delta Oktoberfest takes place Friday, Sept. 27 at South Delta Secondary. Tickets cost $30 and are available online at www.deltaoktoberfest.com.

Doors open at 7 p.m. while the band starts at 8 p.m. Rode also notes a small kick off event "to get people into the spirit of Oktoberfest" takes place tonight at the Tunnel Town Curling Club. Music starts at 9:30 p.m.
