Earthwise Society hosted a volunteer appreciation tea last month to wrap up the season and to recognize the valuable contributions its volunteers make.

Volunteers mingled, shared ideas and snacked on treats provided by Thrifty Foods, Monte Cristo Bakery, Meridian Farm Market and Cobs Bread.

From tending the garden to running the farm store, volunteers perform many essential tasks that are crucial to daily operations. They assist with growing and harvesting, greet visitors at special events, and reach out to help others stay active and healthy.

Volunteers often find ways to share their own knowledge and interests with others as they pursue special projects at the Earthwise Garden. Carpenters, naturalists, artists and teachers have all contributed to helping Earthwise serve the community.

Earthwise Society focuses on a wide range of community sustainability issues, and offers programs related to environmental awareness and education, food security and mental health. All the programs rely on volunteer support.

Volunteers agree that lending a hand at Earthwise can be rewarding.

“I really enjoy my time volunteering at the Earthwise Garden,”says long-time volunteer Leslie Gray. “There is something therapeutic about working in a garden, and I like knowing that I’m giving back to an organization that I believe in so much.”
