A free workshop will help Tsawwassen families better cope with the impact of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.

Life After Diagnosis and Navigating the Health Care System, offered by the nonprofit Alzheimer Society of B.C., takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

From 6: 30 to 8: 30 p.m. participants will receive basic information on dementia and the impact it has on the individual, caregivers, families and the community, as well as an overview of the progression of Alzheimer's disease.

"They will have an opportunity to learn about the diagnosis, different programs and services available in the community, the importance of planning for the future, and strategies for living well," says Anthony Kupferschmidt, the society's regional support and education co-ordinator.

The workshop, for people with a diagnosis of dementia, caregivers and family members, takes place at the Tsawwassen Library.

The workshop fee is by donation. Seats are limited so pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

The workshop is partially funded by RBC Foundation, Pfizer Canada Inc., Novartis Pharmaceuticals Canada Inc., Frank and Yvonne McCracken Foundation, the provincial government, Provincial Employees Community Services Fund, and the Phyliss and Irving Snider Foundation.
