“If I Were a Rich Man“, I’d re-roof St. David’s Anglican Church. Alas, the congregation do not have a Fiddler on the Roof, but it wishes it had.

It does, however, have talented vocalists performing a benefit concert on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. to help put roofers atop the church’s a-frame structure.

Parishioners Rosemary Gahr and Daniele Walker have selected a variety of classical and semi-classical songs to entertain their audience at the Tsawwassen church.

They will be accompanied by Paul Kemp, well-known Delta piano teacher and choral accompanist in churches, community choirs, elementary and secondary schools for the past 40 years.

Their repertoire of solos and duets includes Barcarolle from Tales of Hoffmann which Gahr and Walker will sing together to the delight of concert goers with a taste for opera.

Proceeds from this musical evening will be added to a major fundraising drive under way at St. David’s to finance extensive maintenance and upgrading needed to fix the church building from top to bottom.

A positive start in achieving a large contributory goal is already evident by receipt of significant donations of support from the Diocese of New Westminster, from Legacy Parish Trust Funds, and from parishioners’ special giving.

Tickets are $25 each (children under 12 free), and are available from members of St. David’s, or at the door on Oct. 8. Refreshments will be served in the parish hall following the concert.

St. David’s Anglican Church is located at 1115 – 51A Street, Delta.
