The Delta Choral Society kicks off the holiday season with a magical day of performances this Saturday at South Delta Baptist Church.

Do You Hear What I Hear – A Christmas Choral Showcase will be presented at 2 and 7 p.m. and will feature performances by the society’s four diverse choirs: Delta Community Choir, Delta Chamber Choir, Delta Youth Choir and Delta Children’s Choir.

Artistic director Danielle Hamilton said everyone is looking forward to what has become a Christmas tradition for so many people in South Delta.

“It’s a Christmas extravaganza, if you will. We have been working on this music since September, so the choirs do put a lot into this,” said Hamilton. “We have been off-book now for several years, so this is all memorized, full orchestra and in this lovely venue at South Baptist Church, and we use projection and different images behind us. This has become more of a production rather than just a concert.”
Hamilton said the concerts feature singers from a five-year-old to a 99-year-old which make them unique experiences.

The Delta Choral Society is a local, non-profit community organization dedicated to spreading the love of music throughout Delta. Its choirs are well known for their vibrant vocal sound, broad repertoire and dynamic performances.

Groups of choir members participate in various community outreach events throughout the year and most recently some took part in the Delta Police Pipe Band’s Celtic Gala.

Choir members also came together to sing songs of peace and remembrance at Memorial Park on Remembrance Day and many were involved in the Ladner tree lighting, a KinVillage concert and the Welcome Santa event at Tsawwassen Mills.

“The concerts always include an impressive variety of music suitable for the entire family,” said Hamilton. “Genres range from jazz to classical, and our upcoming Christmas concert pieces will range from 'a cappella' to full orchestra accompaniment. It will for sure get everyone into the Christmas spirit.”

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors/students and children 10 and under are free. Tickets may be purchased online at: https://www.deltachoral.ca/, from choir members or at the door.

South Delta Baptist Church is located at 1988-56th St., Tsawwassen.
