Prospective members of the Kiwanis Club of Tsawwassen, Ladner got a glimpse of some of the good work it's doing in the community during the service club's first meeting since the summer break.

They heard from guest speakers Carlene Lewall of Delta Gymnastics and Natalie Lutz of the Boys and Girls Club, both of whom expressed appreciation for the ongoing support provided by Kiwanis.

Lewall spoke about the Kiwanis Delta Memorial Sports Award, which was formed in cooperation with Kiwanis. She also shared details on the formation of a sports committee that encourages youth to get active.

Lutz highlighted the Kids for Success program, which was initiated due to Kiwanis funding and continues serving 30 young males annually a decade later. The boys have the opportunity to learn skills and participate in programs that would otherwise not be available.

Also at the meeting, the lieutenant governor of Kiwanis District 13, Lyn Spicer, gave a humourous demonstration of what Kiwanis means and how it supports the community.

Several of the guests spoke to their interest in becoming members, and their motivation and desire to work with a group of volunteers that has fun while serving the community.

Kiwanis member Keith Anderson also gave a PowerPoint demonstration on the club's website and how to navigate it for further information.

The next Kiwanis meeting is being held on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Beach Grove Golf Club.
