Lavender Fest at South Park

South Park Elementary had its own Lavender Festival last Thursday as part of the Reading Link Challenge.

In one of this year's books, Seaglass Summer, the main character, 11-yearold Poppy Ray, spends the summer on a small island off the coast of Seattle.

Since Poppy is from L.A., she has a lot to learn about small town life. One evening, her uncle takes her to a lavender festival. While she is initially skeptical, she soon discovers the amazing array of lavender products and how pretty and delicious they are.

As one of South Park's Reading Link celebrations, students brought in articles from home made from lavender as well as some delicious lavender cupcakes, cookies and shortbread. They washed down the treats with cups of fragrant Lavender Earl Grey tea.

Prizes were awarded to the students who wore the most purple and each student got to take home a lavender sachet.
