Prepare to laugh your heart out at the upcoming production at Metro Theatre about a showdown between a slob and a neat-freak, suitably titled The Odd Couple, kicking off this Halloween weekend.

With Ladner’s Catherine Morrison at the helm of Neil Simon’s original play, the night is intended to be funny and perhaps even a little introspective about our own habits.

Morrison says she is looking forward to providing her actors with an in-person audience and bringing live theatre back to the public again, as virtual performances are just not the same.

“There is something human about coming together with strangers ... and sharing a social experience the way you do with a live theatre performance,” says Morrison. “The lights go down and then you’re all sitting there in the dark and you’re responding to what you’re seeing.”

And the feedback loop between actors and their audience is key to a strong comedy performance, she explains, as getting laughter from an audience encourages the actors to lean into their jokes with even more gusto.

Though Morrison has also had her turn on stage as an actor, she says she loves directing because of how involved you get to be in the entire production – from the smaller details of what hairstyle somebody will wear to bigger ones like how the stage should be lit.

The Odd Couple runs from Oct. 30 to Nov. 14 at Metro Theatre in Vancouver, with shows Thursdays to Saturdays starting at 8 p.m. and shows on Sundays starting at 2 p.m.

With all the time that Metro Theatre had its doors closed throughout the pandemic, Morrison assures that patrons will be walking into fresh, new paint and decorum.

If you’re interesting in booking tickets for The Odd Couple, you can call the box office at 604-266-7191 or book your ticket online from www.metrotheatre.com.
