Another causality of the COVID-19 pandemic has hit the local arts community.

Delta Youth Theatre has postponed its spring production of The Music Man, Jr, which was supposed to run from April 29 to May 3 at Ladner’s Genesis Theatre.

Co-director Tracy Neff, who is joined by fellow co-director Tony Barton, said the hope is to be able to stage the show sometime later this year.

“We are using the words postponed indefinitely,” said Neff. “We are also not opposed to doing an outdoor rendition if the theatre is not available. When will people feel comfortable meeting in a facility? We all just don’t know that. We could live stream a show – so we have solutions to every problem, except in order to get a show together we need at least 72 hours with all the cast and crew in one room.

“Obviously given the current situation none of that is possible, so we will just have to see what happens over the next few months.”

Neff said they are open to doing a summer camp style or even doing something in mid-August.

“Some of our students are graduating, so we want to be able to finish the show and give everyone a chance to perform if we can,” she said. “If we can we want to be ready to put something together.”
