Portraits of Honour in Ladner

National tour honouring military to make stop in South Delta on Saturday

The Portraits of Honour national tour is coming to Ladner on Saturday.

"It's being hosted right across the country, coast to coast, by Kinsmen clubs," said Dave McMillan, past president of the Kinsmen Club of Ladner/ Tsawwassen.

The project, a large mural, honours members of the Canadian military who lost their lives in Afghanistan. It will be set up at Memorial Park in Ladner.

The mural is made up of slightly larger than life-size portraits of those who were killed.

Ontario artist Dave Sopha started the mural at his home in December, 2008. The project quickly took up too much space and it was moved into Kin Canada's headquarters in Cambridge, Ontario.

The mural is a joint initiative of Sopha, Kin Canada and the Kin Canada Foundation.

The tour, which aims to raise awareness and support for Canadian Forces troops and their families, started in Ontario in May and is scheduled to conclude in Brandon, Manitoba in December.

The event, which will start with a short public ceremony, is scheduled for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Memorial Park, 5010-47th Ave., Ladner.
