Six Delta students were chosen from more than 100 applicants to receive Envision Financial Education Awards.

Kajsa Cuthbert, Hilary Hwu, Amy Zell, Jacob Wolstencroft, Amanda Dow and Allyson Wollin know that hard work, community involvement and good grades really do pay off.

The students are each recipients of $2,000 awards.

Every year, Envision awards 12 $2,000 scholarships to secondary and post-secondary students throughout the province. The selection committee chose the recipients based on their community involvement and academic performance.

The winning students demonstrated academic excellence and have developed leadership skills in their neighbourhoods and communities as well as overseas. From volunteering in hospitals and youth camps to helping residents of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside and the needy in rural India, each recipient has not only maintained excellent grades but also stepped up and taken on responsibilities to assist others who need a little extra help.

"It's encouraging to see our youth step up and challenge themselves to become active members of society," said Kay Gandham, branch manager of Envision's Ladner location. "These scholarships acknowledge our young leaders who have worked incredibly hard to make a difference in the community of Delta. As an organization, we are proud to help give them a head start on funding their education."
