'Some Kind of Wonderful' in Tsaw.

Singer Tony Barton performing with 10-piece band at arts centre

Singer Tony Barton is bringing his Some Kind of Wonderful show to the Tsawwassen Arts Centre next Friday.

Concert goers can expect to hear some jazz with a dash of Andrew Sisters, familiar songs with original arrangements, Johnny Cash, Elvis, popular crooner tunes, John Mellencamp and some Christmas in July just to mix it up, notes Barton.

"This show has been in motion since I started performing as it is a sort of performance diary (songs from all different shows that I have done and life experiences I have had) but it has been evolving into its present form for about a year," he says.

He'll be performing with a 10-piece professional band that includes three horns and a full rhythm section.

In addition to a Frank Sinatra show, which he sold out the Genesis Theatre for last year, Barton also does a tribute to Michael Buble with Mooncoin Productions which tours throughout the Lower Mainland and internationally.

He says he's continually inspired by classic rock tunes that he grew up with.

"It never ceases to amaze me when people jump to their feet when they hear a familiar song such as Some Kind of Wonderful, Brown Eyed Girl and Ring of Fire," he said.

"They go crazy and so do I. I want to continue finding these gems and giving them a new life."

Barton will have local singers Natasha D'Agostino, Whitney Saip and Jalen Saip performing backup vocals.

"They show their versatility by singing in the style of the Andrews Sisters with tight harmonies to BeeGees and classic rock backup vocals," he says.

Barton will perform his Some Kind of Wonderful show Friday, July 13 at the Tsawwassen Arts Centre, 1172-56th Street. Curtain is at 8 p.m. Doors open at 6: 30 p.m.

Tickets cost $25 and are available at 6049523020 or at the South Delta Recreation Centre.
