Tsawwassen author Ian Kent has two new books available for purchase on Amazon.

It certainly isn’t Ian Kent’s first rodeo when it comes to writing books, and it surely won’t be his last with his two latest releases Travels with Diana and Spooky Action.

Both stem from the Tsawwassen resident’s love and passion for exploration, whether that’s travelling with this wife in Travels with Diana or exploring quantum physics and exoplanets in his science-fiction book Spooky Action.

Here is a look at both.

Travels with Diana (Vol. 1)

This collection of Kent’s fond, funny travelling stories are based off his journal and website entries documenting trips with his wife of over 50 years, Diana.

The pair make a point of getting as rich of an experience as possible from the places they visit, whether it’s staying with a family from there, trying the local cuisine and delicacies or simply chatting with the locals when able to do so.

“We do everything on our own, and I do a lot of research ahead of time so that we know where we’re going and what we’re doing, but independent travel is such an interesting way of doing it because you spend time with the people and you get to talk to people that actually live there,” says Kent.

He hopes that readers of Travels with Diana will be inspired to stray from the more formulaic, organized style of travelling, where you don’t truly get to immerse yourself in the culture surrounding you.

Travels with Diana is available for purchase on Amazon.

Spooky Action

This science-fiction book follows the story of students accidentally creating an experiment in quantum entanglement for their science fair. They go on to receive a mysterious message, which turns out being from scientists on a recently discovered exoplanet lightyears away.

Inspired by Kent’s curiosity for one of quantum physics’ weirdest and most wonderful theories and the 2017 discovery of seven, potentially-life-sustaining exoplanets orbiting a single star named TRAPPIST-1, he pulled the two concepts together to create Spooky Action, he says.

Based on the quantum entanglement theory, where particles – regardless of how far apart they are from one another – have the ability to impact one another through their shared, unified state, Kent’s book offers readers a thrilling science-fiction read in addition to an interesting thought experiment.

“All the science-fiction movies, the first thing that happens [when they discover alien life] is they call up the army and they bring out tanks and rockets and jet planes, and they try to wipe these guys out and they don’t even know what they’re here for,” says Kent.

The book presents a question of how the public and government will receive the news that they’ve found other life on a planet, and they’re able to communicate with earth.

Spooky Action, which is available for purchase on Amazon, is book one, and Kent has book two scheduled to release later this year.
