The Richmond Public Library is hosting various programs and activities in celebration of Pride Week between July 26 and Aug. 1.

Highlighting this year’s Pride Week events is the return of Bryan Bone, also known as Miss Gina Tonic, for drag queen storytime.

Bone, who is an art teacher at a Richmond high school, will be reading out stories and engaging in conversations about celebrating what makes people unique on July 30.

RPL will also have storytimes featuring inclusive stories exploring many LGBTQIA2S+ themes virtually on Facebook and in the park on July 26, 27 and 28.

Storytime events are open to children ages 3 and up and their families.

Kate Adams, head of Children and Family Services at Richmond Public Library, said Pride Week activities help promote diversity in the community.

“Pride programs and resources create visibility and support for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals and their families,” said Adams.

On July 27, RPL is screening three short National Film Board documentaries – Beauty, I am Skylar and Last Chance – back-to-back online from 1 to 4 p.m.

The documentaries explore gender creativity, the journey of a transgender girl and the experiences of homosexual asylum seekers in Canada.

These film screenings are to “inform and inspire meaningful and thoughtful discussion,” according to the RPL.
