A local celebrity hairstylist has changed the direction of her career by setting up shop in Ladner Village.

Hair stylist and barber Adina Shore, who has lived in Ladner for about 10 years, has spent the last two decades working with

celebrities' locks in TV and film.

Originally from Toronto, she trained

at Vidal Sasson before launching her career. She's designed hairstyles for countless TV shows and feature films, including Once Upon a Time, Twilight: Breaking Dawn and Psych, as well as cutting the hair of many celebrities over the years.

However, the single mom recently decided to leave the film industry and open her own barbershop.

Shore said she was poking around on the Ladner's Landing Facebook page one night when she came across a posting about two local businesses for sale - one of which happened to be a barbershop.

She said she remembers thinking, "I'm not ready for this," but she went to see it the next morning, made an offer the following day and, after cleaning out her bank account, Shore opened the doors of Billie's Barbershop last month.

The shop on Delta Street, formerly known as Delta Barbers and Top Barbers, has a long history in Ladner.

Originally built in 1902 on 48th Avenue, it was moved to its current location in 1913 by A.N. Yorke. Initially it was the Ladner Meat Market, however over the years the building also housed a bike shop before becoming a barbershop in 1985.

Shore said she named the shop after her daughter but recently discovered that a man named Billy Well burn owned the meat market.

She said she wanted to pay tribute to the building's past and keep many aspects the same while giving it a vintage barbershop feel.

Shore is aiming to give customers a classic barbershop experience, complete with hot shaves, all at old fashioned prices.

She also has plans to establish a back entrance and convert the back room into a women's boutique with makeup done by artists from the film industry.

Billie's Barbershop is located at 4868 Delta St. No appointments are necessary.
