The Delta Hospice Society has received two generous gifts already in 2012 from two local businesses whose total in-house fundraising efforts raised a combined gift of $4,100.

Wade Gibson, a hairdresser at Evolutions Hair Salon in Ladner, chose, for the fourth year, to accept gratuities throughout the month of December and gift these to the Delta Hospice Society.

Typically Gibson does not accept tips for his hair services but has done so the past four years during the holidays to pass along some good cheer to a local nonprofit.

"I believe in giving back to the community in any way I can, and for the past several years it feels right to pass along my support," says Gibson.

"My clients have been very receptive to this idea and have given overwhelmingly in support of my efforts. I could not do it without them and truly thank each and every one of them for their generosity."

The other local business owner whose philanthropic spirit rings throughout the year is Michael Rudd of Open Space Yoga. His fundraising efforts continued beyond his successful charitable shopping day last November to hosting candlelight yoga classes by donation throughout December.

"I feel very passionate about fundraising for the Delta Hospice Society as they provide so many great services to the people in our community," says Rudd. "I know many people who have benefited from hospice services, including myself, and the work the people in this area do is tremendous.

"Thanks truly goes out to all of my amazing instructors who donated all of their time and talent as well as all of the yogis who attended. With everyone's help, our studio wall was full of food for the South Delta Food Bank as well as $850 for them and $1,425 for Delta Hospice Society. My deepest, deepest gratitude goes out to them all."

The Delta Hospice Society is the operator of the Irene Thomas Hospice and the Harold & Veronica Savage Centre for Supportive Care in Ladner and the Hospice Cottage Thrift Store in Tsawwassen.

The Centre for Supportive Care offers programs and counselling services for adults, children and teens that are dealing with a diagnosis of terminal illness or loss. For more information about any of these services, call 604948-0660.
